TI Receives an Environmental Grant

Stormwater GrantTI Awarded a District (DDOE) Grant!

"Organizing Communities of Faith to Reduce Stormwater Runoff, Upper 16th Street Project

The Environmental Committee spearheaded getting this funding to install a permeable paving parking area, infiltration planter, bioswale and rain garden.  Innovative Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Infrastructure (GI) techniques will be employed.  What is a bioswale, you ask?

TI will be a demonstration area for these technologies.

More about the TI Environmental Committee

Get involved, Contact Carla Ellern, TIEnviro@Tifereth-Israel.org

Under the project, over 3,000 gallons of water from TI’s roof, in a typical 30-minute rain, will be diverted away from DC’s storm sewer system to TI’s new rain garden and to permeable pavers to be laid in TI’s parking area adjacent to the alley. The grant was prepared by the Environmental, Building Preservation and House Committees.
